Barry Cooper (born May 21, 1969) was once renowned as one of the nation’s top drug enforcement officers and K-9 handlers. Originally from California, Barry moved to Texas, where he launched his law enforcement career as a police dispatcher with the Gladewater Police Department. He was soon hired by the Big Sandy Police Department as an interdiction officer in East Texas, where he trained his own narcotics detection dog. During his career, Barry seized substantial amounts of narcotics and cash.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Barry’s task force commander praised him, stating, “Barry was even better than he says he is.” Known for his keen ability to locate drugs, Barry made more arrests and seizures than his colleagues combined, earning recognition as perhaps the best narcotics officer in Texas—and potentially the nation—during his tenure.
Barry eventually left law enforcement after recognizing that those arrested for marijuana possession were often nonviolent and cooperative. He now dedicates his expertise to working as an addiction specialist, freedom consultant, and expert witness in criminal defense.
An accredited lecturer, Barry has presented for numerous legal associations, including the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (Tyler and Houston, TX), the Public Defenders Association (Orlando and Clearwater, FL), and the Seattle Defense Lawyers Association.
