Barry Cooper (born on May 21, 1969) was once one of the nation’s top drug enforcement and K-9 officers. Raised in California but moving to Texas, Barry started his law enforcement career as a police dispatcher for the Gladewater Police Department. He was later hired by the Big Sandy Police Department as an interdiction officer in East Texas and trained his own narcotics detection dog. While working in law enforcement, he confiscated large amounts of narcotics and money.
During an Associated Press interview, Barry’s task force commander said, “Barry was even better than he says he is.” He had a knack for finding drugs and made more arrests and more seizures than the other agents combined. He was probably the best narcotics officer in the state and maybe the country during his time with the task force.”
Barry left law enforcement after noticing that people arrested for possession of marijuana were nonviolent and cooperative. He now works as an addiction specialist, freedom consultant, and criminal defense expert witness.
Barry is an accredited lecturer who has given presentations for the Texas Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association (Tyler, TX), Texas Criminal Defense Attorney Association (Houston, TX), Public Defender’s Association (Orlando, FL), Public Defender’s Association (Clearwater, FL) and the Seattle Defense Lawyer’s Association.
