What if you have your stash hidden really well and tell the cop that he can search, but instead of him searching your vehicle, he calls a dog to the scene. What would you recommend for a situation like this?

An officer usually does not deploy the K-9 when a motorist gives permission to search because an officer does not need permission to conduct an outside air sniff of an auto he stopped for a traffic violation. A smart interdiction officer will ask for permission to search even if he intends to use a dog and/or already has probable cause to search, such
as smelling the odor of marijuana. The reason he does this is to get your reaction when he asks for permission to search.
Like I explain in Volume 1: Traffic Stops, if you have a small amount of marijuana hidden really well, it's better to give permission to search because refusals are a huge red flag and trigger in-depth searches that usually involve a K-9. When I was a cop, if somebody quickly gave me permission to search, I would perform a quick cursory search
of the glove box and trunk and then let the motorist go.
I've been criticized by some for giving this advice because it is contrary to the conventional wisdom of "Always Refuse Consent," but it really works. I understand if consent is given, and pot is found, the chances of the case being thrown out are much less, but it's NeverGetBusted's job to keep people out of jail, not prepare them for the courtroom.
