I read a local news story recently about a Mexican-American man who got pulled over with $25,000 cash and no real explanation. The officer proceeded to hide the money somewhere in squad car while K-9 was en route. Then he had canine sweep the car and alert to location of money. The cops confiscated it, and the judge denied the man the ability to get his money back.

All cash is contaminated with illegal narcotics. A K-9's alert alone is not enough to seize cash. In this instance, the officer could have placed the cash in a location of his patrol car that was previously contaminated with the odor of a narcotic, thereby contaminating the already contaminated cash. This cash could have been won by a good attorney.
