Hello. Fantastic site.
I'm in Canada and am driving to the states in a week. I've followed all the great advice on here. I've went through several latex gloves. I've vacuum sealed a small amount that I ground up to powder. I don't want any peices of stalk poking holes. I vacuum sealed it and washed it down with Purell when into water that was almost boiling. The I vacuum sealed it again, quick Purell rub and then into warm water. (not submerged long). I really thought out the glove usage. It's easy to screw up. I used several pair. I feel pretty safe about the package. I even went and bought a new vacuum sealer because my existing one has sealed pot before.
HERE'S THE WORRY. I'm a daily smoker. Sadly I used to smoke when I drove. (not anymore) I was always careful with the joint. I would keep it in a sealed can. And only pull it out for 3 -5 tokes and then back in the can. (didn't want to be ripped) This may have happened once a week. This toke session. I'm not too worried about that. Ashes escaped sometimes...big deal. BUT.....there were times I rolled while sitting in the driver seat pulled over. So no matter what there was spillage. I used a huge map magazine thingee to roll on. Then wipe it off (dust) and slide between console and driver seat. BAD.
This rolling session happened maybe 10 times over 2 years. The last time was in late June. I've vacuumed the crap out of that car. Tossed the map/magazine out. I even used compressed air to blow any dirt etc out of crevises that vacuum nozzles cant reach, then later followed up with the vacuum again. Then doused all the carpet with window cleaner (who knows).
I know it's impossible for me to retrieve every granual of herb. My main question is even though when a small amount of tiny pot granuals drys out over such a long period.....can the hounds still detect? If you had say 50 puny granuals of pot in your rug for 2 months....will the hound detect it?
I am confident I'm doing things right to limit my risk.......I also know I may not like the truth about these granual I may not see. |

Also.....
I found a spot in the console that you need a screwdriver to get too. There are 2 moldings to remove and it takes about 10 minutes. But I hear that the dogs have trouble sniffing high up? Buddy on hockey message board mentioned this. Actually referred me to here.
In my car ceiling I can pop the light bezel out. I grabbed a mock bag and attached a wire to it and put it in there. I wrapped the fake electric wire around the light power source wire. It's tough to make it look factory when looking in with a light. But feels normal when touching. Grabbing the wire and dragging the bag out came easy.
I keep going back and forth. The console is a tough spot to randomly check but it is low to the rug....and beside the dreaded possible "pot dust zone" called the driver seat. ALTHOUGH I'm very confident about my vacuum seal. 3X now. Package size has grown because of it....lol. The ceiling is great as far as the theory on dogs just sniffing low. Thing that bothers me is that a cop that knows what he is doing could pop that light out in 30 seconds and figure it out by getting up there and looking in at the right angle with a flashlight. And what if this handler makes his dog sniff higher up?
ANY insight or which stash you would use would be great. I should have polled......heh. |

LAST QUESTION
Wow when I see the hardship some people on here are going through it makes my "decision" seem so small. I feel bad for that couple in MO. I feel dumb asking my petty questions about 7 grams of personal weed crossing the border.
Then it makes me think of my own consequences here. I have no idea what my punishment would be for getting tagged with a quarter at the american border. I do realise that this is more serious than randomly getting pulled over in TX with some personal. Anyone have an idea of the punishment?
I know I sound paranoid. But I know I'm not going to crack or anything. I'm cool that way. I don't look like a toker. In fact friends say I look like a cop. I just want to know every risk and minimize it. It is so worth it. I finally have a good job. I have a wife and 2 kids. I like a puff in my room when on the road. I have no idea how to score in the states. The idea scares me a bit too. Although I will be going through Vegas (not staying there) and I hear it's easy to be approached there.
1) worried about "life expectancy" of pot dust residue/smell.
2) stash spot (decision)
3) my penalty
Sorry for the long winded posts. I just found out I have to leave earlier. Wish i would have found this great site earlier. It's in my "favorites" now and looks like a great community! |

Barry's advice on the stash spot has been that if it takes you 15 minutes to get to it, it will take the cop twice that. Is that right Barry?
Personally, I don't stash in areas that are obvious from the drivers seat. First places they look.
As for sniffing high, Ive seen video of a german shephard hitting on ceiling tiles. A car is confined enough that inside the dog will have access to the head liner area.
Bogus luggage rack on the car or bicycle on top would be a good up high spot if you are a cyclist.
Heres an idea, have a couple friends who don't know your stash spots try and find them. Use all you know and see which ones are discovered and what places you didnt even know about. Don't use product of course. |

Thanks Socrateez
You stated "Personally, I don't stash in areas that are obvious from the drivers seat"
Both the console and the light bezel are very close to the driver seat. I'm confident about the package. I'm just still worried about any residual dust around the driver seat. Thus triggering them to think it's somewhere in that console. OH DECISIONS, DECISIONS... Now I'm worried about the roof liner.....lol. Well I asked!!!
Do you or anyone else have a rough idea of the consequences of getting tagged with a 1/4 ounce at the border? Would they throw me in jail to await bail or would they write me a summons and turn me back into Canada? NEED TO KNOW THIS...BIG TIME....
thanks |

| They caught my friend coming across the Mexican border with an 1oz. They impounded his car and he spent the night in jail. They declined to press charges for such a small amount. |

Thank you Vern. That's helpful.
I imagine he's barred from the United States as well?
How did he get pinched? Where did he mess up?
EDIT: Did he ever get the car back? |

| He's a U.S. Citizen. I don't remember why they searched him, he had been partying Tijuana for a couple of days and he looks like someone that would have drugs. He didn't have the money to get his car out of impound, so he hitchhiked home to Delano, Calif. This was when it was still legal to hitchhike in Calif. |

Duh, I don't know why i didn't assume he was a citizen?
Must have been a beater if it wasn't even worth the impound fee.
Thanks for the help. |
