I've been taking Marinol (2.5 mg) twice a day about 4 days a week since January 2008. I got drug tested by my employer and obviously failed. The medical review officer told me that he would send my sample out to be tested for the difference between the THC in marijuana and synthetic THC like Marinol. Is there such a test that can tell the difference?

Hmmmm, I'd have to look up the actual chemistry, which I'm too lazy to do right now, but to my knowledge natural THC and Marinol are essentially the same compound.
Under scientific scrutiny, they should be able to tell the difference in both of the actual compounds, natural THC is more biologically active.
You should find diagrams of both molecules and compare them. I believe Marinol has double bonding in a different place on one of the main carbon rings, which is only difference between the it and natural THC.
BUT! When they drug test, often times they are looking for metabolites of THC, not the actual drug itself, which means that the metabolites from Marinol are probably exactly the same as THC and a lab wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a person who did one or the other without looking at the actual compound. |

| If you hand them your script, I think they would understand. If you take adderol before your test, you'll test positive for amphetamine. In that case you would also hand them your prescription. If you don't have a prescription though, your fucked. |

Well the results were not good. Needless to say I'm not a flight attendant anymore. Apparently they can tell the difference. A medical review officer called me with the results and said it showed marijuana but he was sending my test to Washington for further testing. It came back positive for marijuana and I was fired.

Thanks. It was a chance I took. I should have looked into it more before I smoked, but damn.... I really missed smoking. The good thing is, I'm like a cat. I always land on my feet. Now at least we all know the answer to the question. Gotta go. I'm going to light up a bowl. Mmmmmm. That was good.

The gentlemen who invented the GC-MS is from the UK, it was
invented for the military, pilots and public servants, however, the insurance
companies got wind of it and then it trickled down to the private sector.
Parliament was going to pass drug testing in the UK and the inventor went
back and told them about the accuracy and asked that they not do to their
people what the American Government has done to us, he made himself a billionaire at our expense.
Also it leads people to harder drugs that don t last as long in the system as THC does....... |

Exactly!!! I'm not opposed to people doing these things but there are alot of those who would rather smoke. |

What will happen to me if I violate a DOT drug & alcohol rule (e.g. test positive, or refuse a test)?
Your employer is required to immediately remove you from performing safety-sensitive functions. You will not be permitted to return to DOT regulated safety-sensitive functions until you have:
Undergone an evaluation by a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). Your employer must provide you with a list of SAPs that you can use;
Successfully completed any course, counseling or treatment prescribed by the SAP prior to returning to service;
Undergone a follow up evaluation by the same SAP to determine your compliance with their recommendations; AND
Provided a breath and/or urine specimen that tests negative for drugs and/or alcohol prior to returning to DOT regulated safety-sensitive functions.
You will also be subject to unannounced testing for drugs and/or alcohol for at least 6 times during the first 12 months of active service with the possibility of unannounced testing for up to 60 months (as prescribed by the SAP).

Having heard of the results, you should raise hell and tell them their tests had to have been wrong or they mixed up the results, etc., etc.
The erowid guide states that making a big stink about your drug test can sometimes have the tests thrown out.
Also, if you have a prescription or even a recommendation from a doctor for marinol, you may be able to have the results thrown out and it also is probably illegal for them to fire you for it in such an instance.
Next time check around for ways to beat a drug test... A fake bladder with clean urine works every time, but there are other methods...
Also next time before a test, buy test strips cheap at a pharmacy and see if you will test positive. At least this way you could try and dilute your urine to a point where it won't be positive. Also, give from the middle of the urine stream, and pee the beginning and end into the toilet. The ends are the dirtiest and middle stream the "cleanest" parts of urine. |
