Note: this is purely a hypothetical scenario.
Let us say earlier tonight I got a knock on the door of my downstairs apartment and when I answered two men were at my door in plain clothes. They said they were going to be working on the apartment next door for about a week, renovating since my next door neighbors recently got evicted. They also mentioned that they are the father and step-son of the owner of my building.
They just wanted to inform me that they would be working and the father, being from out of town wanted to check on some work that had been done by a local contractor in my shower. Stupidly, I said sure but asked them if they could wait for just one minute. I went into my bedroom, through which is the bathroom and opened the closet door to turn my 400 watt HPS off, as it leaks a very noticeable amount of light. For some ridiculous reason my girlfriend stepped OUTSIDE rather than hold them off in the kitchen and with the closet door open the older gentleman entered my closed bedroom door to see me standing in the closet having just unplugged the light. My plants are just sprouts and completely unnoticeable but my exhaust fan is mounted to the inside of the door and in my mind there's NO way he didn't see/hear it. I calmly closed the door, showed them what they wanted to see, and escorted them out.
The older man mentioned nothing, and I'm not even sure he has a clue what he might have seen. However, I'm unspeakably nervous now. I understand police have to have physical evidence or a tip off from a "credible informant" to get a search warrant, but given their relationship with the buildings owner I don't know if they qualify. Am I safe to continue, keeping a close eye for extra police in my area and a very low profile, or should I halt immediately? I'm lost. |

| If someone hasn't been to your apartment about it yet they probable won't. If the plants are seedlings and he didn't get a look at them, most he could know is that you are growing something, maybe parsley. I doubt this would be enough for a warrant, but it could be enough for a knock and talk. If the police knock on your door don't open it, you don't have to. Just yell through the door or window that you don't let police in without a warrant and they will go away. Buy the DVD's you'll learn lots of things like this and welcome to NGB. |

Has there been work done to your shower or evidence of it? Are those men performing the work they stated?
What sort of apartment complex is this? Did you ask the owner/manager about the men?
I never would allow apartment maintenance into my apartment without an appointment. You have to be prepared for things like burst pipes where you don't have they can enter without permission. A small plain sight cabinet grow would be better concealed in a apartment. |
