I was in a "drug-awareness" class for the job I had at the time. There was a 17 yr old Opie Clampett looking, wann-be gang-banger from McKinney in there. He had got popped for dealing and was whining about the cops confiscating his $40,000 pimped and slammed SUV and they even took his diamond-crusted medallions and rings.
I couldn't help myself, I said "were you wearing a shirt that said drug dealer?" and added "certainly it didn't come as a total shock that you were profiled. Hell, I got popped on a random, it's OK for me to act suprised."  |

At some point you have to have your own identity in society, Thats we humans do to seperate ourselvef from each other. You also have an identity and probably think you "blend in"
Sure the obvious things can be changed but...
The cars, boats, the way you dress, look, smell and act in your life is part of that identity. We all cant go around trying to "blend in" as if most of us know what that means. |

 I have read your posts with much curiosity. First let me say that is a shame that we have to "blend in" in a free society in the first place. Second, all of your posts appear to be preaching to good citizens. This is NOT a crack board, it is an MJ board. You know, the little harmless plant that has grown and been used for thousands of years. Frankly, I don't believe you even belong on this board. Please go somwhere else and preach to others. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about expression. I'm a tatooed, pierced wierdo. What I'm trying to say is if you're wearing a shirt that says "Got Pot?" don't be all shocked if a cop ask you the same question. If a person dresses in a way that a most of the population would consider to be stereo-typical of a drug dealer and the person IS a drug dealer it could create issues for that person. I'm pretty sure that narcotics profiling exist because it increases the chances that an encounter will result in an arrest.
I believe in risk reduction. I'm pretty easy to pick out as a pot-head as it is. Which I'm cool with. I love to wear my NORML, LEAP, K.O.P. and 420 shirts. I just reserve them for times I'm not doing other questionable activities. |

I would have to disagree with you permafrying. For starters, making a blanket statement like "cops are prejudiced assholes" shows a huge error in logic. Secondly, alot of people on this forum talk as if profiling is the worst thing in the world. What they fail to realize is that EVERYONE profiles in one way or another.
Alot of people here speak as if cops are some of the most ignorant people in the world but they are very wrong. Cops spend so much time talking with people who lie to them that they develop an incredibly sharp "intuition" about people. I can talk to someone for 2 minutes and know if they are telling the truth or not. I can look at someone and, with a high degree of probability, tell you if they have an illegal item on their person or in their car. Am I ever wrong? Sure, but I have been right far more often than wrong. My point here is that it would be a mistake for you to dismiss police as just dumbasses with guns. You might find that they surprise you.
Also, as to the wearing of ball caps and pants down to your knees, well, here's the truth. You can talk all you want about a free society. In fact, you are free to wear clothing and drive cars that make you look like a thug in the eyes of the general population. However, don't cry when you exercise that freedom and are then profiled because of it. You can't have it both ways. You can't dress "gangsta" because you want to show how much of a rebel you are and then cry like a bitch when society says "Hey mr. police officer, why don't you keep a close eye on that guy". |

| just my opinion but like 90% of the people who dress like that arent really what they are portraying they just want people to think they are so that they might get some sort of respect cause someone MIGHT say o hes dangerous look at how he acts and dresses but thats the thing its an ACT there not real just the wannabes.... now i havent grown up in like the "ghetto" but close to it (currently living on the outter city limits of houston) i drive down the street i see the crazy crack heads jumping, talking to themself, just gone in the own world i see the people who supply them i've seen alot on what goes into real "hood" people but the real ones dont dress all crazy with that kinda shyt on there shirts they dont brag they live what they know not what they see on tv. |

If you dress like a THUG , Act like a thug , Hang with the like you may or may not be an actual thug .
Perception in the eyes of the general public means alot like it or not, I will guarantee if you come to me looking for a job and you dressed or acting in a way that i deem to be a red flag for trouble your not getting hired period.
So you can exercise your freedoms all you want , to show you are a rebel , on dress or actions but there is always repercussions in the end result.
P.S Police look for the same red flags , A cop is cruising the hood , And he sees several guys hanging on the corner at 1am , They are dressed like thugs so you slow down and study there reactions to seeing you Now you notice they are acting nervous , The cop already knows there is a 50% chance at least one of those guys have drugs or a weapon on there person.
So if you are doing something thats puts you out of place it does'nt take a rocket scientist to figure out why a cop will stop and question you . |

I can always remember that warm comfortable feeling I would get when some ill dressed younguns in a toy rally car would zip by me on the freeway weaving through traffic like a sperm trying to get there first.
Yeah someone is here to get the cops attention so they dont stop me before I get this ounce home.
They have a role to play, and they seem to enjoy it. |
