This may or may not fall under growing tips. Smile
I thought this was an interesting trend to be reported. I also envisioned the possibility of this happening with other "produce". Razz
Here's the story:

http://www.diylife.com/2008/06/05/guerrilla-gardening-pirate-diy-produce/
"So let's see... we've got the green movement, the organic initiative, and hemp-wearing vegan naturalists. What could be next? I guess it had to happen; we now have guerrilla gardeners out there, doing their thing in the dead of the night under the cover of darkness.

Exactly what is a guerrilla gardener?

They're also called "pirate farmers" and they plant produce and flowers on land they don't own. Since this is technically trespassing, they have planting parties at night when they're less likely to get caught. These operations are called "troop digs", unless of course it's a solo renegade farmer. Then it's "seed bombing." Sounds like fun doesn't it?

Are you ready to start digging?

Groups are already acknowledged and active in Berlin, London, San Fransisco, and Miami. Who knows how many are still undercover? Why not start your own midnight garden club? If you do, I hope you're in my area; I'd love to wake up in the morning with a lawn full of free organic produce!"[/url]

Guerilla Growing........

A practice older than many who might read this wink......

I for one can see how some might be offended at people picking it up and running with it and assigning names as in article......

I think they should leave it to the professionals wink

I doubt this practice would dilute the market of quality product manufactured by professionals if it became widespread. I'll gladly offer my coin for quality herb vs imported seed stock!(Maybe I should pen an open letter to all the anonymous unrecognized growers out there who provide us so richly!)Thanx!
May hurt the Mexicans if this practice took hold. Chances are it would be the offspring of the seedy shit that gets sent here anyway.
If i were a landowner targeted by Authorities as a result, it would be of major concern of course.
I believe this sort of practice in the past has mostly been restricted to "Public Lands" and large tracts of Federally controlled land. That could be changing.
In the Midwest its not uncommon for individuals to plant singular plants in the midst of ditch weed as its virtually on every farm! Most rural authority's don't notice it much, its like the corn or soybeans and cows. It's just there, part of things.
Then again the labels used could cause some irritation. Reminds me of a recent thread of what it means to be a "pothead" or "stoner" Razz

smile

I was just kidding, and, truth be told it is very widespread wink...always has been......

Roots :(no pun intended) go back decades....some having done it for decades smile, but, then you have ethics issues (always have) about people coming across other peoples spots, and, more importantly (referenced above "professionals".....the issue is people who do not know everything they should making "mistakes", and "ruining" spots others might have used for years....things like that.....

You know...anytime you have amateurs running amidst the pros....well, there's a problem....you know what I mean?.......cause there is a lot more to it than "run out in dark and plant"..

Nah......different product, different market....They've controlled "regular" forever, but, have been having some trouble moving into the realm of the hardcore...(for various reasons....)

Another very real and valid point........ethics as above coming into play.....

Well, the truth is most people work with what they have......Growing 101....so....but the above is ideally preferred....but, again, a flip side to that (Federal land, federal charge.....)....and breaks down from there (state land, county land, municipal, etc......)

But....in the end........you do what you can, where you can, when you can, how you can smile

That is the true essence of Guerilla Growing......and, the phrase "Urban Guerilla" has been in use now for many, many years wink

Yeah but then issue with ditchweed is pollination....sure, product is still fine, but, all stock obtained from crop is worthless.....can't use the seed.....pollen of course being able to travel quite a distance.....

I've seen this...know what you mean...grows everywhere.....

Well, meaning those labels already claimed....and, in many cases?(almost all wink.....through blood and sweat...wink

It's a title(s) which is earned.....

I would think the same as any other title earned through hard work, perseverance, blood and sweat and stress.......to see someone walk in and pick it up....well......wink

Such is the problem with said industry......being "underground" per se.......well,......"credit" due and paid?....unlike other fields.....Has been talk of "research"....well, for every "researcher" I can show you 50 people with greater understanding, knowledge, and experience........

Cops reading that will of course huff and puff, but, it is an "industry"....and a global one at that......legitimate business being transacted across the globe......and a multi billion dollar one at that....
