Are you thinking of leaving the urban environ and farming out in rural America? Consider my advice:
Having grown up in a large city, L.A., and then moving to a small farming town in the Midwest was very educating.
First and foremost, no matter how accepting they seem, Small Town people all know each other! They are suspicious of anyone from outside the little world they live in! Especially if you have no "relations" in the area! Moving to a rural community is like infiltrating a rival gang!
Even if you live some distance from a town, you will have to make for civilization occasionally and the locals WILL talk about you. You WILL attract attention no matter what! You will NOT be able to shit without half the region knowing how many squares of paper you used to wipe! You are more anonymous at your own Birthday party!
You WILL get to know who the local Sheriff, deputy(s), police, and Highway Patrol for that area are, by their first names usually. This unavoidable.
In rural Americas defense, they are a live and let live people-once they figure out that YOU are like THEM. If it is any other way in their minds, move away, fast.
I asked a farmer once why he didnt like "city folk".
He answered that he didnt not like them, they just usually bring their city ways with them.
If your passing through small towns traveling, as Barry talks about this in "Never Get Busted", it is EASY to spot someone from out of town! |

goodmorning socrateez, you described my life for 46, farming, crawfish, and cattle. my closest neighbor is 1/2 mile easy. everyone knows everyone for 5 to 10 miles around. not a bad way of life kicked back not much auto traffic. if a car passes we check out who it is. very rural so if you are here its for a reason. the closest town is 15 miles away. later my friend.
peace & pot :smoke

| I am on the frontier of this. around here, it takes nothing to grow enough stash to keep you going all year round. We have our populated areas but about 700 feet from our most built of piece of land there are nothing but farm houses and fields. densly populated woods. If however you are from a large city. live low key find the house in the middle of no where. stay away from small resteraunts and small companies/stores. These people will know everyone that comes in there. Meet prominent people in the town/city. become friends with upscale society. Then when all your growing starts no-one will think about you doing anything. |
