Has anyone here tried to grow with LEDs? I am familiar with a couple of grows chronicled on other sites. A good one is.

This guy is testing a new high-power LED growlight and seems to have good results with his tomater plants, so far. Would a light like this work better than a bunch of T5 flouros? I am interested only in these two setups.

i have only seen the videos on youtube,,but very interesting,,i think the lights have to be RIGHT ON TOP of the plants though dont they,,and i wonder myself if the yield is very large with LED lights.

it is pretty cool though from what i seen.

I've thought of growing with LED's, if I ever decided to grow I probable will. I have a lot of idea's on this, as I work with LED's all day long.

See the key is to get the right light, 660nm (nano meter) is red, 470nm is blue. You want a mix of both lights, in fact you probable don't even want 470nm or 660nm. It would be best to find out exactly what spectrum of light a cannabis plant needs.

So I might as well tell you my grand idea for LED lights.

Were I work we make a controller to control LED lights that we build. These controllers have a strobe function, now I know that plants don't absorb light all the time 24/7. They absorb it then stop then absorb more, it's not a very long stop you would measure it in milliseconds or less. So what I want to do is build a massive LED grow light and hook it up to this controller. With a little experimenting in my "Lab" I should be able to find the right strobe speed.

Now there are a few good things about strobe lights instead of constant lights. First and foremost your going to save some power, but your not going to save half. The reason your not going to save half is because when you strobe a LED you can push more power through it. A typical LED uses 30ma, if you strobe it you can feed it much more. So you get brighter light, and with the strobe your plant is getting this light at exactly the right time.

Also if you make a your grow light RGB (Red,Green,Blue) and wire each channel by itself you can "fine tune" the light. With an RGB light you can tune the light to produce just the right light. And the best part is you can change it for when vegging or flowering. So one light would do everything, and you wouldn't even need to change a bulb, just click a button. Another great thing is that you can program turn on and off times right in the controller software, it's perfect.

Fz, have you tried 420nm, I've heard something about 420 being a number in the light spectrum and cannabinoids absorb it the best. I'm not sure if this is true or not.

Well for only spending a short time this is what I found.
Quote:

for good growing you need blue, red and deep red spectrum. for clorophile A you need 400-430nm of blue and 650-670 nm of red. for clorophile B you need 420-470 nm of blue and 620-650 nm of red.
peak absorbtions are at A: 425 and 660 nm, and at B: 450 and 630.
the power of spectrum should be stronger in red spectrum (arround 85-90%), others arround 5% of each. i did some test grows, but i only used 470 and 630 spectrum and the plants looked just fine. if you give them all the spectrum (for A and B type), they will grow even better.

Interesting idea with the strobe lights, Raven. Now you can't forget the techno music if you got strobes. Thanks for your knowledge.

Well there was a link posted to a video of a guy using an LED for veg growth, and a high pressure sodium to flower the plants.
