nothin that devastating just wanted to contribute to the board.

Last week i was exiting my friends building. We were on our way to the corner liquor store for a beer.
We saw the narcos roll past in unmarked cars on their way to hit that same corner. But we were both clean with no warrants and we were clearly not standing on the corner or loitering in any way.
So we continued to walk to the liquor store minding our own business. When we reached the store we were detained by the narcotics officers, searched, and told to stay against the wall. I mentioned that neither of us were loitering, to which one of the narcos replied: "Oh you were loitering". I kept my mouth shut except for my name and address and ss# (dont know if i should've given them that even). We were detained for over half an hour. I noticed that a dope fiend with no id was let go before we were. The reason they kept us, they claimed, was that there was no information on us on the computers. During that time the officers mentioned that there had been four shootings that night and mayor corey booker was pissed. Hence, all the police activity.
My friend tried sparking a conversation with the officers and continued joking with them for the whole time. I would rather not say a word, but he always does that. He is on parole and maybe does this out of nervousness.

Some points i would like to make:

IF NEITHER OF US WERE ACTING SUSPICIOUSLY OR STANDING ON A "HOT" CORNER, WHAT RIGHT DID THEY HAVE TO DETAIN US? DID THEY HAVE (OR NEED) PROBABLE CAUSE?

IF THEY WERE INDEED LOOKING FOR THE PERPETRATORS OF THE SHOOTINGS, WHY WOULD THEY SEARCH OUR POCKETS AND BELONGINGS SO THOUROUGHLY (OBVIOUSLY LOOKING FOR DRUGS)? SHOUDNT THEY ONLY BE CONCERNED IN SEARCHING FOR GUNS? IF I HAD SOMETHING ON ME AND WAS ARRESTED, HOW WOULD THAT CASE STAND IN COURT?

Of course I already know the deal with this already. It is an old game in the inner city. Cops roll up on a corner and put a charge on anybody they can. They find something on the floor and they dont care who "wears it." They are really focused on body counts, making the most arrests possible. The constitution or bill of rights have very little to do with "policing" in the hood.
If you can even call it that.

I know i have very little say but i want to be as educated as i can in these situations, as well as educating our children about it.

Did you give consent for them to search? Or did something give them probable cause?

Welcome to the NGB Forum Traynine.
Every major city Ive lived in, there are cops or departments that use those tactics.

It reminds me of how the Nazi's used to round people into a group and separate the "good" from the "bad" and then open fire. A few innocents were shot, a few guilty got away, but overall job well done. Our inner city streets look like excerpts from "Schindlers List"
They just throw you in jail now instead of shoot you. Well, most of the time.

I have frequently used metaphors and analogies with respect to the Nazi's on this forum. I apologize. Its just...well, I can't think of more appropriate ones. They are ugly and blunt, but nearly everyone knows about Nazi's and so can see the parallels I draw.

no consent. they just run up on you tellin you to put ur hands up, get against the wall, that kinda thing.

then they pat down and search you, empty your pockets, etc. there is no asking for consent. they just do it.

no probable cause that nite either. we were walking to the liquor store about half a block away. they already rolled up on the corner before we got there. we thought it was safe to walk past because of that fact. wrong.
