I am sure everyone at least once has spotted an unmarked or "undercover" police vehicle or cruiser, and we have also heard about wireless trip cameras, audio and phone tapping devices, hidden micro cameras, flir, etc.
This thread I feel should deal with these 2 main issues -
1. Ways to spot and avoid unmarked, undercover vehicles.
2. Ways to spot, detect, avoid, disrupt, or otherwise just become aware and knowledgeable of the kinds of covert surveillance devices and other spy toys police, DEA, FBI, and other law enforcement agencies may use in investigations.
Also it would be interesting to talk about what kinds of covert surveillance an undercover van may possess, as well as what kinds of procedures are used in stakeouts and tailing.
In my experience they are usually sedans or suv's, they will possess more than one antenna or a very thick antenna, usually a standard "ramming" bumper seen on the front of most police vehicles, tinted windows, a spotlight above the side mirror(s), usually the left, and are usually fords or whatever the standard model vehicle used for that area. Though, I have spotted a "bug" model undercover vehicle, and what I would say was an undercover van disguised as a vehicle for an energy company (the van was a style/model of "patty wagon" I've seen used by police in the cities I live around, and everything about it was sketchy).
I've gotten very good at spotting police vehicles by their headlights, the general shape is just different from most vehicles, whether undercover or not.
In addressing issue 2 I know that there are plenty of retailers online who will supply you with whatever gear you want, but I wonder where the DEA, FBI, and state agencies would want to buy their stuff, or would they purchase the same products in some online store? And in either event what exactly are they using?
I think this is important as in Barry's second video he states the DEA will set up trip cameras to spot cannabis growers, and everyone I am sure has seen videos where people get busted on camera in undercover stings. So what will the DEA's stuff look like, what are the ranges on their wireless cameras, and can their signal be detected by a scanner? Where will they typically place cameras? Up high looking down, low looking up, eye level? I've seen plenty of devices that could hide cameras, from phones to alarm clocks and smoke detectors, rocks, etc. What will they use for outside surveillance though, and where would they try to hide it? Where will they try to place cameras inside, or will it usually just depend? |

I was personally busted by a federal agent in a Taxi. Common car as they are already cop cars mostly and don't attract much attention. They give a blue collar image as well.
They also like to set up operations to take an individual in for questioning with the intent of gaining a snitch. This is usually done in a semi public area such as a park. This is because surveillance from their offices overlooking the area is easy work. Federal agencies often locate offices in buildings near parks. Look up all your local enforcement agencies offices in the phone book.
Unless your a big fish, there are way too many low tech methods employed to bust you. A good snitch is worth more than a dozen FLIR cameras. |

Wow I have 2 relatable stories. The first involving a truck owned by a company I used to drive for. The second is first hand experience. There was a dude who stopped in Stockton CA, he bought some meth at a city park under surveillance. The cops tried to stop him in town, an officer sustained minor injuries diving off the running boards as the driver entered the freeway. They finally stopped him way north, just short of Oregon, with a shot up tractor, and his 2nd trailer on its' side. We later found the drugs that the cops never found under the gearshift boot.
2nd is that I've seen every kind of cop in taxis and other nondescript vehicles running all kinds of patrols. From speeding to smuggling, if there's any cue that you're up to anything illegal they will be watching for you in many areas. |

To answer concerning undercover vehicles...A good narcotics division will have all types of vehicles, from Toyotas to Chevy trucks, and very few of them will have lights or radios etc. Most of them will be a regular car with NO police equipment at all. That is the best way to do surveillance. If they need a car pulled over they can simply use their handheld radio or their phone and call in a marked patrol unit to do it for them. They will also rotate vehicles every 6 months to 1 year...sell off their old ones and get different ones, so as to avoid being burned.
They will typically have a large van or truck filled with very expensive, hi-tech equipment for surveillance, and it will appear very nondescript. They will also use taxis, or actually own a crown vic painted to match a local taxi company, and they will regularly use rental cars.
In many instances, that guy that just pulled up in front of your house and climbed out of the back seat of a taxi to buy from you is probably an informant and the driver is probably an undercover officer. The taxi will be wired for video, aimed at your house, and the informant will be wired for video as well, to record the transaction. |

hey sharp or narc in saw on the news again where a raid went bad and a 26 year old woman and her 3 year old son were shot to death 'accidently'.
cops went to the wrong address. ' i guess you call that good work boys.' or narc do you want to answere about how hard the police are working to arrest drug offenders like sharp. stop killing innocent people.

I've seen an unmarked beige Impala cruising around Spring Creek and 75 in Plano Tx several times. It has lights on the inside of the windows and kind of dark tint on the windows.. This is just a hop skip away from a local head shop so I believe it's part of an interdiction effort.
I keep telling my friends that the DART cop cars could easily be undercovers but they think I'm being paranoid. |

true undercovers wont have the antennas n all that stuff thats all oldschool AND they wont have the lights cuz their not looking to pull people over theyre more interested in gathering info,,however if your suspicious there is a HUGE possibility that they will have one thing,,well besides a gun
NEXTEL Direct Connect,,about 85 - 90% of offices have gone to these and they cover them with covers so you cant see what service they are using.
