Two friends of mine ran into each other downtown, one guy has long dreads, he just came from a Mexican restaurant and had a burrito in a foil wrapper. Meeting the other friend on the sidewalk it went down like:
"hey dude whats up"
"nothing much man"
"want this burrito?"
"sure"
Upon handing him the burrito a cop car comes swerving up to the curb and two cops bust out "PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR!", pushed against the car, frisked, fingers in the face, lots downtown cop shit talk, checking the foil, BAM its a burrito! "We're gonna let you go this time, but don't you be handing anyone no burritos in this part of town ever again!", not quite word for word but thats pretty much it.
Another time one of my old roommates apartment got broken into. He kept a large dope tray on the coffee table with a nice sized gravity bong (tea pitcher and a 2 liter pepsi bottle with a bowl on top) right by it. Some asshole broke into the apartment and stole a change jar full of quarters and an Xbox (didn't touch the weed) and left the door wide open. Some neighbors called the cops, they came by and entered the apartment finding all that shit on the table. Dude comes home from work and the cops are outside, they tell him what happened and they go into the living room, dude is sure whoever broke in grabbed the weed because it was missing from the table. The cops are talking to him about the break in then one busts out the dope and asks "whats this?". Dude tells them straight up its his weed then they ask what the hell that gravity bong is and how it works saying they were staring at it and couldn't figure it out. Bunch of police work shit later, they hand him back his dope and leave not writing one fucking thing down about it. That was 4 years ago, they never returned with a warrant, never harassed anyone further and there was no bust (this might be because they had no right entering the apartment in the first place but they thought someone was home). The city does have an unfortunately high violent crime rate (and lots of crack), some cops have real problems to worry about. |

| Actually, it seems to me they had every right to enter the apartment. The neighbors called the cops because something was obviously not right, with the door being left wide open and all. The cops entered the apartment to do a sweep of it to make sure no one was inside, since the bad guys could still be inside or the apartment owner could have been inside and hurt. Once inside they saw the weed and bong in plain view. At that point, seeing that nobody was inside, they had probable cause to secure the apartment and get a warrant to further search it. Your friend could very easily have been busted. The cops were just nice. |

| That was just not nice, I've dealt with LEO's in many jurisdictions. Those officers were simply realistic, what good would it do to compound the crime against you by busting you for a little pot? When your behavior was in no way associated with the call, or offensive in any way. narcdet I've said it before, man there are places where pot is not considered criminal unless you act in a manner that would get you busted sober as a saint. My local police force could care less about a little pot, there are better ways to spend one's time. I always have and will forever be a contientious objector on the war on pot. |
