I was fortunate enough to attend the NORML Conference in L.A. last October.
We were there for the opening reception Thursday night, meeting other activist, many of us have been in touch via email for a long time and we were meeting face to face for the first time.
It seemed to be the start of a laid back evening.
Then the alert came in from Americans for Safe Access that a legally operating cannabis club was being raided in the Arts District of L.A. by federal DEA agents in conjunction with local police.
Within a few minutes activist from all over the world, from a dozen organizations, many of whom had never met before, loaded into cars and vans and headed out to show our support. Josh and Leah from Texas NORML, myself and some who choose to remain nameless, were there side by side with ASA, compassion club owners, musicians and freedom fighters speaking out against the legal and moral atrocity we witnessed. LAPD stood in between us and the DEA. If they had planned on pulling this shit without incident....well, let's just say they picked the wrong fucking day!
Local News arrived on the scene:
The following pictures are of the robbery. Medications and money were stolen. They trashed the place and left without making any arrest. I think the last picture really captured my mood.
