Hello and thank you to Barry for providing a great source of information for like-minded anti-prohibitionists.
I will be traveling by Air in a few weeks and I'm hoping that some of the knowledgable members of this forum can give me some pointers.
I only plan on carrying a maximum of 1/4 ounce with me. I've heard from several folks that the best thing to do is just keep it on your person (stuffed in the crotch area). My concern is drug dogs. I have never seen a k9 at the airport I will be departing from, but I have at the airport I'll be arriving at. (obviously that gives me some relief since I'll be going through security at the departing airport...but just because I haven't seen a k9 doesn't mean they aren't there.)
Are these dogs primarily trained to search for bombs/explosives or are they also keen to sniff out dope?
So any suggestions? Should I even risk it?
Thanks! |

There are dogs in airports trained to sniff persons. Though this is rarely done on domestic flights due to people being highly offended by a trained detector dog sniffing them. So dogs sniffing people is more common on international flights.
Professional traveling comics often carry edibles. Just make sure your brownies don't look like haybales. |

| One thing you should be concerned about is your luggage. Even if you end up safely carrying it on your person it does you no good if a K-9 hits on your bags and you find officers waiting for you when you get off the plane. By handling the weed you may transfer the odor to clothing in your bags or to the bags themselves. If your bags become the target of a random sniff check and a dog alerts you and your bags will be searched. The chances may be small that this will happen but it is something to be aware of. |

Thanks for the info.
Do dogs go into search/sniff mode only when commanded by their handlers or are they always "on the alert"?
In other words, if a k9 and his handler are strolling around the airport and I happen to walk by with a quarter ounce in my pants, will that k9 detect the ganja if he is not prompted to do so? |

| Highly unlikely. K-9s cannot be on the alert constantly, and they need breaks, so they do not actively seek out whatever it is they are being prompted to find unless given the command. |

| I have a friend who quite frequently visits the Caribbean islands. He always takes about an ounce or so with him. He says he cleans it down to smokable powder, keeps it in a glass jar with a screw on lid, and keeps it in his luggage, just like that. I didn't see him packing to know exactly where in the suitcase he put it, and I don't remember whether or not he carried the bag on the plane with him or not. He has never been in trouble. He also does not look like a pothead (well, I don't think he does), and he is a doctor. Although I don't know what that would have to do with anything. |

now I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that Columbia is a known drug country, and I would think that if that is where your plane came from that customs would pay close attention to everyone coming from there...I personally would not try it .......and welcome to the board |

| columbia is for cocaine. They have trained peaople to look for nervousness. they also have dogs, and equipment they can take you in to xray your entire body. I am with the guy above me. don't ever, ever, ever think of trying to take anything out of Columbia. Would you really want to go to a columbian jail. |

This topic hurts me deeply. My tips
1.Dont bring pot to the airway, just find someone at your new destination.
2.If you must bring some, use smell proof bags, wear latex gloves and you can shove it through the rim around your boxers where the elastic goes around.
3.Mail your bud, dont use fed ex or ups, use a third person mail carrier like DHL. make sure you wrap it tightly, and wear gloves and make sure you cant smell it at all through the bag. |

So I never went through with this kind of thing myself though I thought about it, I heard a suggestion from somewhere that seemed like it might work;
roll it up in some sealable bags and put it into a shampoo bottle (with the shampoo in it) and check it. |
