Hello again, I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about the SOG method of growing. I searched for instructions but came up short on details. I want to be able to grow small plants in a confined space that bud twice as fast, sounds impossible, until I heard about Sea Of Green growing. Can anyone give detailed instructions on the matter? Please include best time to stop veg and when it's appropriate to 12/12. I appreciate all responses and have a happy bud filled holiday.
Cheers.

Old thread, but, some things came to mind which I thought I would point out for readers in future:

1. SOG is merely minimal veg time with tighter spacing.

(SCrog is of course training through a screen....but more veg time and less plants in most cases..(all?)

(SOG-Sea of Green/SCRog-Screen of green)

Can be performed in any system, and, usually is..

Key points though new growers should be aware:

1. Penalties are calculated by plant count, which is why most shy away from traditional SoG, and are leaning towards trees.....(more veg time, larger plant, fewer plants.....)

(One should always check Norml for their states guidelines......every state different laws of course.....and, most never have checked......this falls into "Security 101"......)

2.Veg time is minimal or nonexistant.

Clones go under 12/12 as soon as rooted...(0 veg time) in most cases, and, one can also do 12/12 directly from seed.

Your stretch will depend on strains your running....for clones, depending on sizes when cut, might run less than a week veg time at the most, or, for seed, you might want the same, a week or so of veg time, but, strain dependent...(depending on what your running, you may get minimal stretch, so, a little veg in order......a week or so depending on your conditions....)

Should also be pointed out that right now a lot of high quality AF's coming around, so, this is another option for people (with fems to come, or , make your own, but, treatment of AF's for fems is another discussion)....

(AF=autoflower......which start to flower automatically from seed, most done from cracked seed in 10 weeks or less..will flower under 24hr light, anytime of year outdoors, etc......Outdoor planting though of AF's add's yet another set of variables...(Splash issues, but greater stretch due to outdoors...)

Countless runs and comparisons by countless people, and, SOG vs. other comes out to personal preference....greater yields not necessarily proven....(sq. meter production, etc.....), and, as above, numbers issue.....which should never be overlooked and worthy of mention.....lot of variables in comparisons (less veg time, etc, but, total yields could be compared of countless ops.....so....)

All depends what your running....(tables,freshly rooted preferred by many......but then DWC trees also preferred by many with impressive yields, etc........so....)

Lot of people running the 12/12 from seed.......and, lot to be said for it depending on ones specific situation and circumstances.......(stock available to you one aspect though, so.....) Many choosing femmed stock to start with, less numbers, etc, so....

Yeah.....SOG downfall is effortless to move into unfavorable numbers...

Always be aware of your numbers and what your working with.(against) wink...

The numbers issue you point out really jumped at me. That never entered my mind! Thanks Joe! I can see the value of knowing your States sentencing calculations! (Weight vs Number, or ratio)
If you potentially can get say 10 years for ten plants regardless of size, well I can see where growing one huge tree is advantageous over ten shrubs. At least from from potential legal risk analysis.
You should elaborate on this in a separate topic.

Most never give it a second thought until charges filed.....

Numbers is "Security 101" and "Growing 101" wink.....all about the numbers......that's why nowadays everything is as it is.....

Unless running large (where one is far past any guidelines anyway wink.....should be in ones mind from initial set up.....(Cali med are familiar with this, as their set up's essentially revolve also around specific numbers at any given time.....)

Well, I can't readily recite all 50, but, a greater majority go by plant count....as does Federal also....(which is a whole different discussion, as Federal numbers do not always ensure federal prosecution, etc, all depends who runs it, and if feds want to pick up case (which in many cases they don't.....but, can't rely on such speculation, just an overview.....)

Well, a better example might be probation for first time offender with 10 plants, vs. 10yrs for one with 100........

SOG can get 100 on a single table for the most part..(give or take, whatever, it's an example to prove a point wink...vs. one can run a tree grow and can get 20lbs +./- off the very same 10...(sure, increased veg time, but, with some talent and skill....I don't think many are going above 6 weeks veg, some people doing 4 weeks..(strain dependent also......)

(Tree's present the opportunity for them to go after weight charge, but, plant count still always there....and sure attorney would appreciate it in worst case scenario.....

On that note, the other issue most people seem to have is try never to have cash, grow, and finished product in the same place....(several reasons...all together can clean the average person out, plus additional charges......which, if a lot on hand can also hurt any personal use approaches.......

Numbers has been name of the game for quite a whole now.......at least in US....(everywhere else, they still run SOG minimal veg fairly common.......)

Yeah, first thing one should do before anything is check local and see what they are working with....some states not too bad, if clean record, not bad at all....some states absolutely barbaric....(being aware of numbers also might prevent a MM (Mandatory minimum) getting slapped on you..(clean record, first offense, full sentence...)

You should elaborate on this in a separate topic.

Well, SOG, it seemed an appropriate addition.....as you said yourself...you didn't even think about it....most don't...

Security is usually not high on list of topics growers well versed on...(should be first topic studied imo.....) Most talented, skilled, best set up, efficient op means shit if lapse in basic security protocol....

Very serious issue most overlook....

Edit: Also feeds in to outdoors, and basics.....ie: Spreading as many out in as many spots as possible to limit ones exposure at any given time....ie: 100= 10 in 10 spots, etc.......plus issues of thieves also..(any found, lose one plot, still many left......)

The more angles one is aware of, the better....wink

Also overlooked is within 1,000ft of schools.....up to a 5yr MM can be tacked on.....(regardless of initial charge.....).

The schools issue is one I have been aware of. Most people are ignorant to just how close they are to a school. Your right, most wouldn't bother to check. Google Earth with the layers set to show schools and other potential "enhancers" in your area. Most people live within that 1000 ft radius. At least in suburbia.

Interesting you mention sentencing and prosecution discrepancies between State and Fed. I met a few Midwest growers who basically got slaps on the wrist from the Feds compared to what the sentences would have been from the State. Then again, I'm sure there are unknown "specifics" in some cases to explain that.

Well.....lot of angles...sometimes people are "aware", as in they heard it, they "know it", but, then proceed down a path which contradicts it....so....

Yu know....that kind of stuff can be due to psychological issues..(ie: They want to put the worse case scenario out of their mind, ie: If you ignore it, it doesn't exist, and, of course, no one ever starts anything assuming it will end unfavorably...but, the less one puts into it, the less one adheres to basic security protocol....(and for growing, there is a specific set.....one could learn more about security than growing actually...) well......not wise......

Happens all the time......cultivation cases and even possession cases, intent, etc.......

Investigation and arrest might be conducted by local (city, county,state).....they may choose not to kick it up the ladder......they may also choose to kick it up and have it kicked back down....

If run by Federal
.....well, then more of a problem.....

All depends who pics it up.....(sure, some cases run by federal and might be refused, etc, as happens a lot with border cases.....(S/SW borders having issues with volume of cases....kicking them to local to prosecute, local doesn't have the resources, etc....overwhelmed by volume of their own cases and feds dumping even more on them......all on their (local) dime....as is any time done by those cases.....

I wouldn't say one could rely on any such though....

I've seen (personally) couple in past which surpassed federal guidelines, run by local, feds had no interest, and result was reasonable....

All this stuff though....too many variables....which is another thing people tend to overlook, is, what kind of record, priors, etc.......lot of people don't think that will hurt them down the road, and, some of my personal pet peeves are people who party a little too much......(grow, throw something else in...(whitey, x, shrooms, cid, etc, and, well, your fucked 10 times more than the grow.......)

(once knew a guy who liked whitey....moderate sized grower....(let's say about 300......maybe between 200-500..whatever...not important...).....So....genius always had about a 1/2 z on him (personal, never sold anything).....well, anything happened......the green he would probably walk...throw the whitey on time, intent due to amount, etc.......and, well....another textbook cases of that.....

People also always seem to have a problem with indicia of sales.....(scale(s), bags, stuff like that......) Keep the fuckin scale somewhere else....you need it?....then use it but get rid of it after your done using it....

Growing.........security........expansive subject....truly...endless angles......but, security always underrated...(Everyone knows about trash pulls, and never throw anything in garbage.....Security 101.....but, I'll bet you most do it anyway....

All "the rules" are not necessarily to prevent anything from happening (some are)........many are damage control if something does....

laughing Very true Joe! Contingency is as important as prevention if prevention fails or is inadequate.

Well, as they say:
"This ain't checkers.....this is chess mutherfucker" laughing

wink

You have external sources which could lead to the unexpected......(ie: One could follow all security protocol and still raise suspicion leading to a tip.....) ie: Despite one following protocol........a security breach occurs.....

From that point on......all other aspects of security come into play........and if protocol not followed, will help develop the case against you....

A tip?....well, a tip is just a tip.......

Throw on a trash pull which brings something that shouldn't have been there in the first place?....well....there you go....textbook example......

And then you have infamous "X Factor", which, despite ones security being as tight as it can be, things can still occur.....(X factor=essentially "act of god"........have been cases of fire, tornado's, etc which revealed ops......)...nothing one can do....but, all still comes into play (having things on hand which make the case more than simple cultivation.......other drugs, indicia of sales, weapons, etc......)

LE loves weapons with drugs, as they can build it to much more than it is......(and enhancements as above)...when in reality could be legal, registered weapons for hunting trips and such......)

Well, but, as above, that can vary also.....

Knew a guy once, 2-300 plants, and, loaded 38. in his pocket when he answered the door.....(legal, registered weapon, permit, etc), and, no gun charge on him, etc, so....can also go both ways on that also....(but, again, not something to count on......)

I don't really have anything good to say about LE as a whole....especially when talking growing.......their Gestapo and stormtrooper bullshit....they'd be wise to take a cue from FBI and OC cases...(knock on the door, inform them a warrant, they got em, moment to notify family or kids, etc......) Have seen one Barry vid and know states the same....no reason to destroy and traumatize, etc....(unless of course, ones personality is such that they enjoy intimidating and abusing their power wink

I think the latter
seems to be the case since I haven't seen many cases of "dangerous" growers laughing (and I have known more than anyone has come across, that's for sure wink

Maybe they don't want to give them the chance to flush 4ft plants and 1k's down the toilet? laughing
