I've always wondered how a dog can be trained to detect MJ. There are so many varieties and compounds within those varieties which produce different effects. Brown mexi brickweed would likely smell quite different than say ATF or Skunk #1. Is their toy scented with a sampling of as many varieties as the trainer can obtain, and do they have to frequently re-scent the toy?
Or perhaps is there a fundamental scent carried on all types of MJ?

There is a fundamental scent with all cannabis regardless of the strain. THC and other properties of the cannabis plant give it an odor like no other plant on the planet.
It might be understood better by comparing it to beer, wine and whiskeys. These are all different "strains" but all contain alcohol. Skunk and Trainwreck are all different strains but are still marijuana.
Scent the toy with any kind of pot and the dog will alert on all other pots, including hashish.

| That would depend on how you have it up there,and how long it has been up there.a scent cone would develop and if the dog is spinning around sniffing at the air,the Handler is going to try to figure out what the dog is alerting on,and if nothing else is obvious,he might reach up and hit the ceiling......I have seen drug busts,like on cops,and have seen them taking drugs out of the ceiling. |
