DEA admits, media ignores, public remains oblivious. Same old pattern since hearst.
Convincing American's that they're wrong about Marijuana is not practical--only people like Barry who show people how to (hypothetically) avoid the law will produce change. As the law becomes ignored and unenforced so it will pass into obscurity (think about how many laws are on the books now that nobody enforces)? |

Polls show the public's' opinions in MJ and MMJ are changing. I love it when MJ topics arise in conversation with straight folks. I do not wear it on my sleeve, but I am not also not afraid to tell anyone in any social setting that I am a smoker. I have enjoyed many lively non-confrontational discussions with people who had a skewered viewpoint of weed. Occasionally there are folks who have their viewpoint and are unwilling to change. But for the most part people are open minded. Just don't try to lead the subject and conversation, and people often share their opinions, and are just as willing to hear yours.
On Wednesday this week I had the opportunity to share a bit of knowledge with my crew chief while driving back from a job. He's a Mormon kid who has lived a sheltered life, but he's not a closed minded zealot.
Long story short my boss know I smoke pot, and I have exactly the same standing as before.
We have set company records of the most accurate data ever collected on very difficult land surveys.
If were my judgement or co-ordination were ever to be affected by my being an every day smoker it would have become apparent long ago. |

October and November is what I call the "Harvest Festival" here on the border. The Mexican brickweed has been harvested, bundled, and is ready for shipment.
This is that magic time of year when we are treated, almost daily, to stories about huge busts. It's not uncommon to have a traffic stop that yields 3,4,5 hundred pounds or more. A few weeks ago, they got over a ton of weed hidden in a semi-trailer hauling crushed stone.
The Border Patrol and ICE agents that I know all say the same thing: "It's dirtweed, but it's big poundage. It makes us look like we're doing our job."
Meanwhile, I have to wonder how many OTM (Other than Mexican) illegal immigrants have made it across the river while our boys in green were out chasing down some kid in daddy's car, running a load of weed for spending money. They smile for the cameras while posing beside a big pile of bundles, while some poor kid, or working guy, has his whole life ruined by a felony charge.
It's like a janitor that only mops the floor; sure he's doing his job, just not all of it. The floors look great, but the sink is filthy, and all the toilets are clogged.
Bongzilla is right. Public perception is changing, albeit slowly, but changing none the less. It has taken 70 years, but the lies and misinformation are beginning to fall away. Due, in large part, to folks like us that are willing to engage in spirited and intelligent debate about the matter. |
