Some of the mountain growers around here are using generators outside of old mineshafts, the lights cannot be seen on flir if you're deep enough, hot air streaming out of the porthole or other vents can reasonably be attributed to geologic activity (hot springs) normal for the area. There are several large grows using this method around here, none have been busted.
Mines have special privacy and no trespassing rights around here that go way beyond the normal home or vehicle.
There are several areas around here where if caught trespassing without permission you will be shot on sight. Nobody even the baddest LEOs will attempt to serve a warrant up there without ATF, FBI, National Guard, and state police ALL there in force. Last mine raid in the area was on a militia weapons stockpile, an OSP Bomb Squad officer was killed when some of the explosives spontaneously blew.
