| 2 of my close friends got arrested a few weeks ago for possession marijuana... There is just one problem it wasn't theres... John my friend was giving someone a ride home from work and John didn't know that he had the weed on him... I know who's it was and who he bought it from... The guy that bought the weed is trying to bribe John into taking a guilty plea and get a lesser charge, he is offering John $2,000 to do that and not roll over on him.... I told John that if I have to I will go and buy a voice recorder and try to get an audio confession and take it to court when he has to go... I was wondering if an audio confession from the dealer will help his case or not... And Im good friends with the dealer and dont want to get him in any trouble but I just want to help John out with this case... Any other suggestions on how I could help him out??? |

I don't think a audio recording is enough, some times it is and some times it isn't, I'm not sure witch time it works and witch time it doesn't.
I would try to talk to the dealer friend of yours, and try to make him realize that $2000 is not enough for someone taking the fall for him, since it will follow John for the rest of his life. And if John is innocent he doesn't deserve it (I'm not saying others deserve it but when you are innocent you DON'T deserve it).
Maybe if the dealer comes forward they will respect that when they are sentencing him.
If the audio recording will work and court will use it as a evidence against the dealer he will be in much more trouble than if he would come forward.
This is a sucky situation and my heart goes out to John. At least try to talk with the dealer and see where it goes from there. You could record it in case and if things get really ugly you could use it but don't tell him. |

Yeah thats what I was trying to do is keep it a secret, unless I have to say who the dealer is... And I didnt really state it clearly enough but the dealer is not trying to pay John to keep his mouth shut the guy that bought the weed( John was giving him a ride home from work when they got pulled over and arrested), is offering him the money to keep his mouth shut... I thought that the Judge would have records when they went to court the first time on everyone that got arrested that night and see who's it was... Because John and his girlfriend have clean records and the guy that had the weed is on parole now for something having to do with drugs...
But yeah im gonna try to get a confession on tape before they go to court next month, just in case they can use it in court... I usually dont snitch on people for small things like this but I also try to help out my friends when they need it...

| Dont like to bump old topics, but I have an update from my friends. They went to court last Monday, and that case is going to Supreme Court. The guy that had the weed wants it to go to Supreme Court. All that over a $20 bag of weed. Wouldn't that be a little suspicious? He has already paid a lawyer $1,700 to get all this settled. The problem John (my friend) has is that he cant afford a lawyer so he will be going in blind when they go back to court, this time in front of a jury. Monday when they went to court John gave them the dealers name and said that he has a few witnesses that will say that they know who sold the weed and who bought it. The judge didn't listen. Any new ideas for help? |

They typically only deal/bargain with lawyers. Just going through a lot of court rooms with my divorce, I saw that first hand. |
