| How applicable or pertinent is all of this information in light of the Pariot act and other legislation since 911 when ads have been on TV stating that "If you smoke marijuana you are funding terrorists!" It seems to me that these ads were used to set a precedent. |

Total bullshit, buying cannabis does not support the terrorists. Most cannabis that is consumed in the US is also grown here. Some is brought in from Mexico and Canada, but most is grown here. The fact is it's hard to transport enough cannabis to make good money.

The ad is kinda true, just not for pot. It's true for opium. A huge amount is grown in Afghanistan by local farmers, who then transport it to other countries. It eventually ends up here. Guess who gets the money.
Like FZ said, pot is locally grown or from Mexico & Canada. I don't know why we don't get any from Afghanistan, I know it grows there too. Maybe there just isn't enough $ in it. |

Yes it is true that a lot of opium and heroin comes from Afghanistan, In fact the amount has increased since we "liberated" them. I didn't write anything about this because he referenced them talking about cannabis.
The main reason that cannabis is not imported from foreign country's is because it's to bulky. You can ship heroin in a book cover and still make money. The chemical drugs like cocaine and heroin can be compressed much more then cannabis can be. You notice you can get hash from other country's, thats because it can be compressed a fair amount. It's a lot harder to smuggle in a kilo of cannabis compared to heroin. That and if you import a pound of pot, assuming it's brick weed you can expect to get maybe $1000 for that pound. Now you smuggle in a pound of heroin, no matter how much it's compressed you can get around $8000.
It's really a question of economics, why try to smuggle in cannabis when heroin pays so much better. |

My question was not whether pot smokers support terrorists. What I want to know is where do our rights stand now that the government has made a concerted attempt to label pot smokers as supporters of terrorism. According to the Patriot Act, as "supporters of terrorism" we can now be held without due process indefinitely because we smoke pot.
I have studied the progression of marijuana legislation for many years and though it may have started because (according to rumour of the time) Harry Anslingers daughter disappeared with a black jazz musician, It stays with us because the government has seen how it works to control a portion of the populace. If a government needs to control those citizens who will question their authority, a very easy way is to set forth a completely ludicrous set of laws regarding an innocuous substance and then allow those "questioners" to make themselves criminals. They have then willingly given up their voice in government and must live in fear of arrest or losing their job and now long-term detention without legal defense. |

| I had to leave so was unable to finish what I had to say, so here it is: For many years, I was a militant pot smoker, I smoked in public, walking down the street, sitting in front of a coffee shop, at smoke outs, etc. all in an attempt to demonstrate to others how many Americans are smokers and to incite as many people as I could to peaceful civil disobedience. During this time, I knew people, many of them lawyers, doctors, nurses and other professionals who were afraid to appear at a hempfest or let anyone know they smoked for fear of losing their jobs, prosecution or persecution. Now I have a child and must also live in that fear because my son can be taken away from me because I ingest a completely harmless plant. Things were starting to get better as far as legalization and people speaking out, but now our government has declared us as being worse than criminals we are TERRORISTS. As an aside to those who posted in regards to opium and other drugs, I never mentioned them and don't use them. If you have not seen the ads on TV they did not mention them either, they said specifically, "If you buy or smoke marijuana, you are supporting terrorists" |
