How do LEOs determine the "street value" of seized property? We had another large grow raided in the mountains near me, as usual the street value reported seemed inflated. I know the numbers are automatically inflated to make the bust seem bigger, and the defendants more menacing. But is there a chart or anything LEOs refer to in making value claims, or are they free to just fabricate it. When it is a growing plant do they just assume how much each plant could potentially produce, or go by the actual weight.
My buddy is a local firefighter and was called out to provide his expertise in case the fire got away from the police. By his guess it was low grade with small buds compared to what others grow around here.
He says it was worth 25% of what was reported.
As with 99% of the raided large scale grows around here, all of the people involved were Mexican Nationals.
The grow was not found by any government aircraft, rather a local hunter who reported his find.

When it comes to grow operations they usually have a fixed price per plant that assumes that the plant, when mature, will produce X number of buds and bring in X amount of dollars. The dollar amount varies according to location and to the type of plant if a specific strain can be identified.

In a generic sense the main difference in price will be regional. For example, where I'm from one can expect to pay $21,000-$26,000 for a kilo of cocaine but if one were to buy the same kilo in FL they might pay $14,000-$18,000.

Within any region there is always a wholesale/retail for anything under the sun. Markets always fluctuate depending upon supply and demand. So what is the precedent or baseline in which they figure how much a plant is supposed to potentially produce? Selective breeding can now produce little plants that mature quickly, which is based upon an assault plan of sorts for a lot of little plants to be grown quickly at one site. Kind of a grab and go in the growing world, hit and be gone before LEOs can begin investigating.
Or the monster plant, some of the MMJ licensed growers around here seem to be trying to re-enact the giant beanstalk thing. A local businessman is promoting his indoor grow shop with an indoor plant he personally produced weighing at a reported 64oz yield of premium dried and cured buds. He will help set up only LEGAL MMJ grows, the average citizen is welcome in his shop but a green card (and they are green!) is the only way he will be of any help and answer any questions.
How much do they figure each plant to yield?
Anything is cheaper when you buy in larger allotments, so do LEOs figure what the seizure could be sold for intact? Surely not intact so in what size allotments? Say a guy has a half pound, where is the baseline is located? What quantities do LEOs or DAs assuming a person is going to sell by?
Personal smokers purchase in differing quantities. Differing regions, different dealers handle varying quantities in general.
Do they automatically assume a large grow value at retail or wholesale?
Is it the same for smaller grows?
How about large vs small possession?
