I just joined this board, but I am veteran of many others forums. Regarding the electric bill increase, I dont think there is a exact number that will cause the companies to look at your bill.
Remember that there are many legitimate reasons why a electric bill could increase, and it is difficult to investigate to see if you are really growing. Now that being said if you get three new 1000 watts light at one time and start running them 24 hrs a day all of a sudden, then that could "POSSIBLY" draw some attention. Leo also knows that growers need to run there lights on a 12/12 cycle to flower. So if you are suspected for what ever reason they could look at your account and follow your electric wattage usage. AT the company they would see a graph and the see the spike of 3000 watts of extra power usage and the time increments you used this with. Also remember that 3000 watts could be a air conditioner, a television, several heaters anything. So always pay your bill on time, and dont make your self stand out from the other 100s of thousands of electric company customers. Dont have bags of soil sticking out of trash can, don't throw away pot leaves or shake in the trash at your house, dont talk on the phone about pot--this is if you think your being wacthed--.
Be aware of how many watts of power you are consuming in your house, or least have a general idea. You could try to mass this by running the lights instead of certain appliances. I have always heard a good rule of thumb is 1000 watts per room. If you really don't want to draw attention to your self i would not personally recommend anything over 2 1000 watt lights per house hold. This will help to dramatically reduce the chance of leo being curious or even suspected you of a grow. Just be smart, research what the average usuge of watts per house hold in your area is if possible. Be safe about this. |

| Thanks for the reply, You touched on all the things I considered. I love the t5 bulbs and my light kit has no ballast. When I use 24 hr. light at 60,000 lumens it only inreases my bill by 30 bucks. What always bugs me is the 12/12 and how much of a flag it can be. All I have come up with is cut them off at 7 AM Before work and make it seem as normal as I can. |
