Hey Barry. Not sure if youve been involved with this.Do the police often catch people growing marijuana outside?Do they tend to just remove the plants or try to catch the grower? What tactics do they use. Also,Ive heard of cases where cameras were used to take pictures of people tending their plants. How far away can these cameras be placed? How big are they?Where do they usually mount them?Is it likely I can find one?I know its alot of questions but I could use some answers.Thank you!

I am very skilled in this area.

They certainly try to catch the grower. If they can't, then they just remove the plants. The larger the field, the more time spent trying to catch the grower.

It seems at this time, outdoor grows are not being harassed much but always beware!

Creeping, areal, wire taps, informants...all the usual. In my NeverGetRaided DVD I will creep a field and explain how it's done. It quite an interesting subject.

Cameras are used. These cameras can be placed as far as and as long as the line of sight in not obstructed for the video or picture. They can be the size of a pinhole all the way up to an everyday home video recorder. It is highly unlikely you will find one of these cameras. This might help ease your nerves...Most video of growers have been taken from creepers sneaking in and filming while the grower is unawares. Heat runs (walking in circles around you plants) are highly recommended to avoid this common tactic!

It was my pleasure and you are welcome!

A "heat run" is a term used by law enforcement when noticing a drug suspect circling the parking lot looking for police prior to a drug deal.

Always make heat runs. Said another way...Always look for cops!

A heat run can be made in the area surrounding your plants by simply walking in a snail shape design from the outside in. Always start the heat run from far out so if you come across law enforcement during your "snail pattern" you were caught catching them not tending to your plants. Meeting cops in the woods is not illegal. Tending to pot plants is.

Old thread, but, I can add some additional comments and points.....

LE term is "heat" (applicable also when doing runs and have lead/decoy vehicles involved), and meaning simply counter surveillance/counter intelligence....

When talking outdoors, you never want to go straight into a plot upon arrival. Never.

Lot of different variations and methods can be utilized.....

Can use game cameras for general area, and retrieve and review before hitting plots..

Can also use them on entry points to lands/properties....

One can also set up certain things at entry and exit points...ie: any and everything that can be disturbed and show signs of life in your absence, but, this is more touch and go as you , most of the time, have animals to address.....

One can also set up things that might not be disturbed by animals at greater heights (ie: An animal might not trip it, but, a chopper close may very well blow it down, etc......)

None of this is the starting point though, and all secondary, as ones primary issue to address is always how you get them in, in the first place...

How you get them in can dictate all that follows (Different planting times, different sizes, worked into treelines, good spacing, irregular patterns...) Most tend to space too close, especially if larger plants...(larger plants , early season, with full prep can have you looking at a final footprint of 6 x 6, 8 x 8....yet many plant much closer together not knowing in the end, your going to have a solid, large path if you space them too close....

Federal, state lands have had cameras in use since 1999...are constantly adding to budget, and always implementing new methods....(such as the drones now in California....)

Furthermore, many Federal, State, and County lands are placing cameras, and have been for years, as early as March (before season even starts)in select spots which are potential sites, due to exposure, water sources, etc, or past sites they have discovered...

Never a bad idea also to review as many cases and court docs as possible in relation to investigations to further understand what the process was in each case and led to discovery and prosecution....

There are providers who want to supply various strains of the drug at a lower cost for medical use, but they're prohibited from doing so because government policy restricts them from supplying more than one patient
