Hello everyone,

I am yet another former Police Officer and join the many other ex law enforcement officers who support the legalization of Cannabis.

During my 11 plus years on the department I did not smoke marijuana as I felt like a hypocrite if I were to do my job. I also was an officer who threw the dime bag down the drain in lieu of destroying a young adult’s life with a charge and case over a PLANT which has a VERY interesting History on how it became illegal in the US. Basically it was one man’s decision and a poor one at that of addressing another problem along with much altered one sided media campaign based on doctored studies to put the FEAR OF GOD into the Nation. The very first federal vote to prohibit marijuana was based entirely on a documented lie on the floor of the Senate.

Small Town politics were not my thing and trust me MANY cops use or have used in their past and the on going joke at our department was after retirement going out and smoking a “Fatty” was the #1 thing on their list. You see over the past 15 years the “compassion and ethics” have changed drastically in the Law Enforcement community and many of the veteran officers are burned out and the new recruits are so brainwashed by the end of the academy they are too intimidated to think outside the box.

I now suffer from a devastating back and leg injury in which my Doctor did not think I would ever walk normal again. My meds and pain management treatment has destroyed my appetite and the pain is so sever I have sleepless nights unless I use Marijuana to counter the side effects of my LEGAL prescribed meds which are FAR more addictive than any type of Cannabis I have ever smoked. My Dr has to cycle my meds to keep my body from addiction to the meds. I live at a pain index of 5-6 daily and getting out of bed can be a challenge some mornings.

There are SO many benefits to this NATURAL plant for people like me as an option for treatment. I would MUCH rather use a natural product over a synthetic medication with very addictive neuropathic side effects.

Well that is my two cents for what it is worth and I look forward to corresponding with the NGB Community

Welcome to the forum.

Even as what would be termed an addict, the cons dont outweigh the pros for most people. Most of the cons are artificial politikal ones as you noted.
Its nice to see that their are law enforcement with compassion and a brain of their own. Kudos to you.

I noted your view of the new recruits these days. You are not the first LEO to offer such a opinion.
In what manner are they brainwashed?
How are the recruits different from those of the past? Is this "generation gap" thinking or is there something tangible in the attitudes and ideologies of the recruits that shows?

I also found it amusing about the fatty for retirement. What else do LEO (Law Enforcement Officers) "look forward too" that isnt on the menu during their career?
I wouldnt have guessed that something like that was openly discussed. Is it like a reward for service?
Sorry...so many questions, so little life in which to ask.

Why thank you for the welcome and I will tell you what, as a former 11 yr LEO veteran this is the 1st time in over 5 years since I left the department that I am now comfortable talking about the "Fraternity" and the fucked up things MANY cops see on a daily business of poor judgment and "Grey Area" search and seizure laws which are often abused and misinterpreted by officers every day.

You see those of us who have worked within the "Thin Blue Line" are well aware of the pseudo military organization to police departments and after you leave you feel this heavy weight over your head to keep your mouth shut about all the unethical behavior by fellow officers and command if fear of retaliation. Well as par for the course I did not have an easy time keeping my mouth shut which caused me a trip to jail on a trumped up charge, not drug or domestic related, which was eventually dismissed. Even after that experience and the good case I had against my department I chose to keep my mouth shut and just let it all ride over. Unless you have experienced this type of intimidation and at the level they can bring it, you really can not describe the "Fear" many of the officers have of speaking out after leaving the job.

I am no angel and have my faults as well as myself to blame for some decisions in my life but I never realized how much "Grey" area there was inside the screwed up justice system.

I am actually thinking of starting a thread encouraging other retired and resigned LEO's to tell their stories about things they have witnessed that they know in their heart was or is wrong and unethical.

Thinking of calling it the The thin Blue Grey Line.

BTW FOR ANY OTHER OFFICERS OUT THERE READING THIS FORMER OR STILL ON THE JOB IF YOU THINK YOUR DEPARTMENT AND UNION WILL CYA THINK AGAIN. I KNOW MANY OFFICERS LIKE CITIZENS WHO HAVE BEEN SET UP BY EITHER THE CITY THEY WORKED FOR OR THE DEPARTMENT AS THE "FALL GUY" IN A CONTROVERSIAL SITUATION, EVEN IN A JUSTIFIED SHOOTING. WHEN THE UNIFORM COMES OFF WE ALL SHIT THE SAME WAY! big grin big grin

One more thing. When you live you solely on one side of the law no matter what side it is, you sometimes grow blind to the reality growing around you. I think we called it tunnel vision back in the day. LOL

Thanks for the reply. Great post!

I would encourage you to write that post.

You see I am very curious about that "fraternity". Many many people are in fact. Not just because they want to skate that line or learn to avoid the hammerfall. Most are suspicious of it. I think most citizens see that there is something hidden, something you dont see unless you are a cop.

Your the first i think to note the militaristic parallels. We all see it though. More and more our police look like the same young faces on youtube shooting insurgents.
Will they show us the same restraint as our police?
It worries me how much our police appear like military and adopt its tactics.

Ive said before that I as a citizen hold police to higher standard of conduct and moral character than i or others may exhibit. Thats exactly why I want them as police and not me.
Do you agree with this view?

As i see it, the time has come that police can no longer simply obey orders and uphold the law. I just cant see how anyone could mindlessly obey some of the laws we have now. How can an officer not have a serious tug-o-war with his/her conscience?
The ones that do come out in retirement or in secret on this forum and whisper about the power that fraternity holds.
Sounds like the mob. Maybe you should write a book. big grin

yea the end of the world is deffinetly near..cops turning against their city, "good people" running the city turn against the cops, and dealers taking over cities and counties, its cause sometimes the supposedly good guys running the cities make cops turn against the city,

sometimes you gotta bite the hand that feeds you

Ok I just spent an hour on a reply from everything from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to Levels of Force and Laws. I thought it was brilliant however in the process of posting I lost Internet connection and "poof" away went my post. mad

Now that will teach me to write in Word and cut and paste. Learn from the mistakes right?

Well trust me folks the wife gave my post a thumbs up and I will rewrite it but first I must get off my ass and give the back a rest. It was a challenge for my ADHD ass to sit on one spot and write the 1st one so I have a real challenge ahead to get it done tonight. Ahhh a night I wish I could go into the cabinet and pull out a herbal bag full of Canabis without worries. A wish is a wish with help can come true, or so I was told and my mom lied to me all these years! LOL

Peace and Prayes to all those fighting this ridiculous battle on a Plant! Confused
