Since back in the mid 1930's people in the marijuana lifestyle and culture have been trying to curb the hearts and minds of those in power so they may see the utter damage they are doing with their "War on Drugs" with peaceful protests, letters, meetings, discussions etc. To be honest though has it really done all that much help?? in 70 years we have gone from complete illegality to what somewhat decriminalized....... 70 years of trying to come up with a peaceful solution. Many will say that the movement is closer than we have ever been, but in truth i see nothing but a dismal disappointment from the government and most of it's powers and institutions as the past has shown. Maybe it is time to look at the alternative methods of getting things done and changed. I'm not even an American citizen and i am absolutely disgusted thinking about the fact that over 800,000 people in the country are arrested for marijuana. I'm a Canadian citizen and even i can hear the whisper getting louder..... the words of John F. Kennedy become louder and more prevalent with every person that is locked up for this practically harmless plant.
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." (John F. Kennedy, In a speech at the White House, 1962
35th president of US 1961-1963 (1917 - 1963))
In my personal opinion i don't think many movements or changes or revolutions if any have gone on without bloodshed.
My question now is why are the people in the counter culture the only ones bleeding and suffering in pain???
Perhaps it's time to move from the "War on Drugs" to the "War on Government"
There are enough of us out there, the army is already there, the will and spirit to fight for the cause is there, the bloodshed and suffering of innocence is there. Yet we do nothing. Peace can only take a revolution so far. |

There are many who are preparing to wage war against the government. Check out the latest article in Mother Jones, "Oath Keepers and the Age of Treason"
As they say, In times of peace, prepare for war. I disagree though with waging war against the government because peaceful means have yet to be exhausted. Those means can and have taken revolution all the way. Also check out "From Dictatorship to Democracy" published by the Einstein Foundation. They make a strong case for nonviolent revolution and list several countries where the method has recently been used successfully. There is a very good chance Marijuana will be decriminalized and legalized in our lifetimes using non-violent struggle.
Granted, the government is destroying lives of many Americans. Would waging war make things better? Guerrilla Wars are rarely successful and Governments often react by becoming more repressive. Another major attack on American soil would undoubtedly sink us into a Depression, where almost everyone in the world would suffer from economic hardship. War would not make things better in our lifetime.
Since success is being made, albeit slowly, I doubt JFK, a very principled man, would advocate violence presently. Though that does not mean I am against breaking laws.
I leave with a quote from a man who knew a little something about overthrowing governments - Ernesto 'Che' Guevara. "Where a government has come into power through some form of popular vote, fraudulent or not, and maintains at least an appearance of constitutional legality, the guerrilla outbreak cannot be promoted, since the possibilities of peaceful struggle have not yet been exhausted." -Guerrilla War. Even he, who many think was a brutal killer, wrote that waging war when avoidable was a crime. |
