My family and I may relocate from Arizona to the midwest. Ive been stopped twice in the panhandle traveling this route. I know I40 will be rife with officers staring down my U-Haul and tow dolly. I won't be traveling with smokeables.
Here is were the advice is needed. I am positive nearly everything I own is saturated with pot dust and material. I have some expensive smoke toys as well. I would like to bring these along too.
In the event I'm profiled and pulled over,(I will not be breaking any traffic laws!) What do I do in addition to your wonderful advice on the video? Even if I leave all my stash, everything i own must reek to a dog. |

Well for one i wanna hide your smoking tools very well, however i dont know a good hiding spot for those.
Second, if you get stopped and ask to be searched, consent, open the back of the truck, tell the officer he is welcome to look but he has to un load/ re load everything But be sure hide them well.
But others are more qualified than me to answer this question. |

when I moved towns, I put all my paraphernalia (including about an ounce of hydro) into a safe. Then I loaded the safe into the U-Haul FIRST.
After that, I put everything else I owned in front of the safe.
So, if the cops had pulled me over, they would have had to take EVERYTHING I OWNED out before they found my shit. And even if that had happened, I sure as hell wouldn't have given them the combination to the safe! They would have had to get a safecracker out there!
What HiPo is willing to go to all that trouble for a misdemeanor?
If you were a drug smuggler, you wouldn't be carrying a whole apartment full of shit in your u-haul. The police know that.
They might pull you over, they might look in your trailer, but once they see mattresses and couches and boxes in there, they'll know you're legit, and probably won't press the matter any further.
If you are worried about your furniture reeking, get it steam-cleaned. And you can get a damn good safe from Wal-Mart for under $100.
Its not fool-proof, but I'd say at least probability is on your side. |

Hmmm. I'm not to worried about someone actually finding my stash but having a K9 smell the residue of years of use. I guess I could contain my usage to prepared zones to let everything air out.
Anyone know how long a dog can sense pot was in an area and will the respond to "stale" or old pot and residues? |

| Residual odor does dissipate with time. You can find things stating anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months. I wouldn't even worry about green if going to Phoenix, every 4th or 5th person knows someone. When I was living there in a condo complex with about 100 people, about 40 had direct/indirect access to metric tons. Even nice quality (commercial skunks and solid indicas)is cheap. Only thing moderately expensive is hydro. |

My advice would apply to any time you are afraid of getting searched. This is above and beyond Barry's advice of traveling in lousy (stormy, rainy) weather and lessen the chance they will want to search your trailer. A loaded trailer with heavy stuff might be a good deterrent. Stinky, stained up stuff might not hurt. That cop would have to be real hard up for a bust to want to unload a trailer full of stinky boxes with bodily fluid stains, all the while it is pouring down rain.
I am investing in a few of those fart packets you see in the novelty shops. If I get pulled over while in transport, I will just pop one and release an extremely unpleasant odor. I plan on telling the cop I just left a chili cook-off or have explosive diarhea and look real embarrassed. No cop is going to endure the smell of open ass to search your car. The downside would be that it may take a long time to air out your car or the cop might mistake your fart bomb for an ounce of the funkiest of the funk. I might try this first while driving clean to see. |

Wouldnt something like that be unusual to encounter in the back of a U-Haul? What about a cat litter box full of the treat dogs really want?! Dogs love litter-critters.
At least it should distract most dogs.
I'm going to brush up on dog psychology ala the dog whisperer.
I love Barry's use of a dogs instincts to distract or redirect them. |

My experience on the subject of police searching a trailer. I was picking up some funky smelling spices in L.A., and got into an argument with one of the warehouse guys. As I was leaving he sarcastically wished me a good trip. The look on his face said something was up his sleeve.
Sure enough the first weigh station I came to I was pulled over and inspected. The officers obviously had gotten a tip I was smuggling. They put the dog in my trailer, he went apeshit!
35,000 pounds of freight were unloaded on the pavement, and thoroughly searched. The cops were pissed and left me to reload it all! Fortunately they were so convinced my trailer was full of drugs they didn't check the cab. I have also seen a few instances where car interiors were dismantled, upon finding no drugs the citizens were left to re assemble their own car. Usually on the side of the road and with limited tools. As far as I know they're only responsible if they break your property, and if they find nothing incriminating. Best bet is to make it hard to access. They will not likely search a U-Haul, and your household belongings without a very good reason.
The good reason they had with me was the dog's reaction to those spices. Which may very well have been stored or transported with drugs. |

I think the best answer would be to totally clean all your smoking ware with rubbing alcohol. This will remove all residue and should return the ware back to like-new condition. If you can restore your pipes to total glass (no residue) then they are not illegal to possess. Paraphernalia only becomes drug paraphernalia when marijuana has been smoked through it. Otherwise, the smoking devices are for tobacco.
Purchase a few baggies of flavored tobacco and smoke a bit of tobacco through a few of the pipes. Place the tobacco in the same box as the pipes and wallaaaaa!!! You're no longer a pot smoker but merely a tobacco nut. Of course that is until you arrive at your new home. LOL.

I use rubbing alcohol all the time when going on vacation. The only problem is that when the resin is taken off by the rubbing alcohol, you now have to do something with the resin filled rubbing alcohol. Trying to wash your hands off with water afterwords just makes the resin harden on your hand. If you do decide to do this, plan on using ALOT of rubbing alcohol so it doesn't end up putting a resin film on your sink, your piece and you.

| Thanks Barry! Thats a good idea and also bestows the benefits of owning glassware instead of metal pipes. |

dish soap and granulated industrial soap are good for washing resin off your hands.granulated orange soap is the best. |

Good idea. In another thread on permeation, I realized this about the resins and solvents. A second rinse at least that will remove the dissolved residue so it does precipitate when the solvent evaporates.
My experience with alcohol is that it will slowly dissolve pot resins. Stick a finger into a container of resiny alcohol and you pull out a finger full of resin. I would love to get an Autoclave!
What about ultrasonic cleaning? Anyone? |
