This actually a automotive application I thought might solve excess heat emission from venting. In effect anti-flir for ducted airstreams. In a nutshell, utilize the cooling effect of methanol/water injection in the vented airstream. A proper injection setup in the intake section between turbo and throttle body on a boosted car can cool intake air stream temps to near ambient. We are talking hot compressed sir. Real hot. 7-12 psi and up.
This consists of a very fine nozzle in the airstream spraying water or methanol mix into it and cooling the airstream via flash evaporative cooling effect. The science is well known and mechanics of it used since at least WWII to boost warplanes. Also called liquid intercooler as it can take the place of a radiator style heat exchanger or intercooler.
You could think of this as a miniature high performance inline swamp cooler.
This could easily be adapted to any ducted airstream.
Google water injection or alcohol injection and you'll find tons of DIYers making their own kits.
Note* Relative humidity of air supply effects efficiency. Dry climate users benefit the most.
If you didnt know, Methanol is commonly found in windshield wiper fluid in 50/50 ratio. |
