Well, Its a country in Europe, mainly in the Alps. It usually maintains a neutral stance on any conflict and is known for their banks.
Answer your question?

what I was getting at is in Switzerland at a certain age everyone goes through military training and is sent home with a gun. A very well armed society and a very low crime rate. Kind of goes against the guns are bad idea. I just wish people would get past the thought that guns are killers. They're not .......... it's the idiot at the trigger end that is the killer. England has very strict gun control laws, yet one of the highest crime rates. Go figure ......... |

Actually, the UK has almost a no gun policy, and so there is a substantial drop in murders.
I already really argued my point earlier on the forum. In an Utopia world, it would work. But there is always going to be someone with a gun. Too bad people feel like they need to have the ability to kill.
And if guns dont kill people, they certainly help! Idiot going "bang bang you're dead" is less likely to kill you than his buddy with a gun. |

I'm not arguing for or against but offer these thoughts as there is no clear right and wrong on this which is why opinion is so diametrically opposed. Grey area makes sheeple think and they don't like that.
Should we change control from ourselves to that of a governing body? From a few thousand random wackos who'll kill with whatever means is expedient; to a few who'll control and use what is most expedient to kill thousands upon thousands? We relieve ourselves of the burden of the thought of killing by delegating that authority or control to others.
Really, the history of warfare breaks down to distance. Increase the distance between you and your enemy so that you may strike but he may not. From fists to stones, from bows to guns, from bombs to missiles, that has been the goal. Surely guns depersonalize the true intent of conflict, which is to establish dominance and not harm. There is merit to the elimination of weapons which dehumanize killing.
That was not our forefathers intent however. They knew Utopia is a dream based on the absolute good will of all, all the time. They knew there could again be a time when men might be compelled to turn their tools of sustenance to tools of war. Such has always been the case. Plows to spears. So much for the good in man eh? |
