I have read and reread a lot of posts here and I have come to 2 conclusions. At my age I still enjoy studying and learning things I never thought I would be interested in and there is a wealth of information that I have been soaking up like a sponge.

I am in the process of writing a book and need some help. I would like for some feedback as to whether my story is feasible or not, if this were to actually take place in real life. Please share your thoughts, opinions and if you disagree with any part of my story, please tell me why it won’t work. If you have anything to add, please feel free. The story goes something like this. This is a human-interest story but details are very important.

For the sake of simplicity I will speak of myself as if I were the wife. (I am female – nothing else is similar to me or my life.)

Ok, there is a husband and wife and the wife is a recreational/unqualified medical smoker and the husband is not. I (the wife) will never be a non-smoker, unless of course, I vaporize. I am over 50 by some years, 2nd marriage with a total of 6 children. All over the age of 21. I am self employed as a reseller (that is not making any money to speak of right now due to the economy) and my husband is now working in a mediocre job, making far less than he did, after being left go from a company he was with for many years. We own a home, and it is increasingly difficult to keep up with our financial responsibilities as it is, and it will get worse as soon as this job ends for my husband, which is within 6 to 9 months, if we are lucky. Nothing on the horizon at this point as far as a job in his usual field. So we have decided to try to make a living in “plant management”. Due to family dynamics, mother and dad still alive but not well, very small town, we are fairly well known to most LEO’s as our kids have not reached the “upstanding citizen” phase of their life yet. Our home was raided once for plants growing in our yard, which came as a result of trusting someone we should not have. I got a paraphernalia charge out of it. Nothing since. One kid got possession of a small amount pleaded down from a felony charge of manufacture, delivery, etc. Everyone else was fine.

Okay, here is a hypothetical scenario and I am asking for lots of advice and info to be sure I have as many bases covered as possible. We want to save our house from a potential foreclosure, which we are NOT behind at all, but look to be in the next couple of months if we don’t do something soon. My hubby and I are in full agreement on most of this but we still are working out the details. If you think I am full of it, tell me I am, but please tell me why. I am learning as much as possible before I complete this book.

We live in State A. Growing in State A is out of the question for many reasons, but mainly safety. We are looking at leasing our house out in State A (which would be a financially sound thing to do) and moving to State B. In State B, we will find a place to rent, preferably from an absentee landlord and in a rural area. We would like to find a place with a basement and 3 bedrooms and a garage. That gives us several options to do our plant management work. My hubby will work in State B and we will live a very normal life. I will continue to run my business from State B and move product (restored furniture) to State A (which is through 5 states) to continue my business. Except for what we need to live in State B, everything else will remain in State A for when we return to live in our home. A year or 2 at best. We have several large ticket items we will be selling to make the move and purchase our overhead for our new adventure. We will use gift cards/cash to purchase EVERYTHING that has to do with this new adventure. And any ongoing new supplies. After looking at all the various ways of growing, we have decided to go with soil to start. I have read a post on another board called “The Sealed Room” which is the model we are going to go with. I have read the thread several times and my only questions with the set up have to do with the nutrients. But I will get that down pat too. It is just going to take some more studying. We are going to start with a 4 light system and plenty of odor control. We don’t expect any visits from family, friends, etc. but we will set up like we are. Only 2 people will ever know about this and that is me and my spouse. We are best friends, been married many years and trust each other with our lives. Okay so good so far?

We have decided that if Northern Lights will work with the Sealed Room system, we are going to go with that. Need to do some more research on strain to be sure. Our first grow will have to be from seed and then we will clone from there. Okay, so in less that 90 days from germinating, we should have a crop to “distribute”. The product will be in State B (where we know not a single soul) and we need to move it to State A.

Since I have never ever sold, only bought, I am in a precarious situation. I have 3 people I purchase from and only 2 know me personally. The other source is a friend to one of my kids whom I have never met. I prefer to sell to only one person at a very good price per unit, but I am not sure that is feasible. If I understand the other post I am referring to figures correctly, I am talking about 10 to 12 pounds every 60 to 90 days if done properly. According to my research, wholesaling in this area could potentially gross 24,000 minimally with each harvest. My sources do not have that kind of money. I really prefer not to retail as I think it is very risky, or I am fairly uncomfortable doing that. In order to minimize the chance of my friend being a snitch if they would be caught would be to commit to them the money to pay for a lawyer who specializes in criminal drug defense. It would be security to them knowing that they would be given every chance to minimize the damages of a conviction without snitching.

I think there are 3 options to move plant product from State B to State A. Option #1 would be to use USPS/UPS/FEDEX/DHL and I believe that I would probably go to WalMart, buy a highly scented 3 wick candle, remove the label on the bottom, drill a hole from the bottom up to almost the top, fill the hole with product wrapped in foil, baggie, saran wrap, etc, melt some of the wax removed from the hole and fill the remaining space with melted wax and put the label back on the bottom. I could ship the candle with either no return addy or from a home based candle business, Candy’s Candles. I would send to the correct address, just a different name and never require a signature. Being asked to sign would be a tip that something isn’t right and give the receiver the option of saying that noone with that name lives there. If anyone knows some statistics as to who among the carriers has the lowest rate of confiscation, please let me know. Also, what are your thoughts on sending with no return addy or from a candle business. Which seems to be safest? Of course, I would be sending priority or ground, but the fastest way possible so as to not have my candle melt at all. I want my receiver to be happy with their candle.

Option #2. Just make a trip home every 3 or so months to visit family and check on my parents. Use a fairly new truck, with some great space under seats to stash. The truck has no tint, always registered and inspected and kept up with. Husband is a very good driver, not too fast or slow, is aware of turn signals, etc. We will only travel with our dogs and only during rain. Not sure if day or night would make any difference. Any thoughts? I could also use these same circumstances and instead of going to State A every time, I could agree to meet my friend at any place along the route. Meet for dinner, etc and make the exchange.

Option #3 would be to acquire a tag along, Uhaul or personally owned, and prepare my product very well, slip it into the drawer of a piece of restored furniture. Place it into the trailer first with the drawers facing the back towards the hitch. Fill the rest of the trailer full of furniture, etc that I will be returning to State A for my business and again travel with my puppies, in the rain. It would only ever be my husband and I traveling just looking like a bunch of old farts. We also have given some though to getting a travel trailer and moving product that way as then we will have a place to stay when we come to State A.

My story is about an average lower middle-class family just trying to get by and due to the economy and job loss and facing the prospect of loosing everything that they have worked all their lives for their children to have a little bit easier time. The only thing they have left is their home and they are going to do their damndest to hang onto it, even if it could potentially mean getting caught, but hopefully are blessed enough with proper information not to.

My story is going to assume that enough money is made to payoff the house and vehicle within a year to year and a half and hopefully by then, the job market will be better. This is simply a short-term plan to keep our heads above water. The total debt is less that 150,000 but value in the home is about 50,000 more than is owed. I will fight to the end to save the house. That really is the point of my story, that desperate people do what they have to to try to hold onto what they have worked for all their adult lives . This couple feels if they can pull this off without getting caught they are empowering themselves and their family. The husband is working a job that he is way to old to be doing but he is there 12 hours a day 5 days a week. This is going to kill him and his wife refuses to go down without a fight.

Now, here is where I am really not educated enough to finish the story. I need to figure our how we get from where we have some pretty serious cash (at least to us) and turn it into our future. I am not asking anyone to tell how to break the law, I am asking for ideas and then maybe the ideas can be developed to give my story an ending reflecting the battle that was fought and won without being caught. This is not a story about greed or never having enough stuff. It is about a mom and dad doing what they need to in a safe way and then walking away when their plan is accomplished. If you were this couple and you were able to produce this kind of money, how would one go about paying off the house and vehicle and do some additional remodeling that still needs done with the cash? Bank records can be traced so going through the bank is not an option, I would not think. I would think that any increase in activity would alert someone. I don’t know if opening additional accounts at various other banks/credit unions would do the trick. Can one walk into the bank with $150,000 and pay off their mortgage in cash without question? Or their vehicle for $20,000? Can one purchase a home with cash? What if someone handed you 100,000 and said you can have it but you can never tell anyone where you got it, what would you do?

Please comment, rip apart and tell me what I am missing or what additional information needs to be included in the story. If it is the dumbest scenario you ever heard, tell me that too, but tell me why.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to read this and comment as you can.

Thanks

If you stick to this plan, it's almost 100% chance you'll be going to prison. Any transaction over $10,000 must be reported to the Feds. Growing and selling is a lot harder than it sounds. If were that easy, everyone would be doing it.

Vern:

Why do you say that? There are alot of people doing it safely and successfully. Give me your reasons why it will not work. That is all I am trying to do is open this up for a healthy and spirited discussion.

Thanks

I read somewhere that for every crime you commit there are at least 50 things that can go wrong and if you can think of 25 of them, your a genius. You could be snitched off by the electric company for using to much juice, a friend, spending more money than you normally would, if they can't prove it was from drugs, they will get you for tax evasion. Something as simple as your transport vehicle breaking down on the side of the highway, when the State Trooper stops to assist, can keep your cool, or would you get nervous and start sweating like most people would. This is just the tip of the iceberg. It's the unexpected that will get you busted

As far as electricity goes, get some air conditioners or something and just don't use them. Then you could claim that is where the electricity is going. Do the math to figure out which ones will correlate to the usage you are using in your operation. Granted, this will only help during summer months and day time. For the winter (if State B is cold) you could have electric heaters laying around. Although, this is all really overkill. The power you are going to use for a 4 light system is really not all that much. Another idea would be to invest in some solar power equipment and use that to power, or at least assist in some of your light powering to keep your utility bill down.

As for having lots of money and not knowing what to do with it? 1) Gamble! Sure, you might lose some, but as long as you aren't on a card linked to your name, the records would be ridiculous to trace. You could easily explain a few thousand to a couple lucky nights at the casino when in fact you maybe lost $100 each night you went. Just remember to cash often and move around. The less of a trail and the longer it is, the better. 2) Spend slow. If you had an extra 100 thousand under your bed and you spend 10 thousand of that each year until it was gone, so long as you bought things that are relatively inexpensive (no cars, boats, pools, house expansions) and spread the purchases out to maybe months between, I'd bet you'd be okay. 3) Maybe even deposit some of it into a bank, but slowly and inconsistent small amounts with a non pattern-forming interval. 4) If you do decide to do expensive work such as house modification, pay the contractor 20-30% under the table so the reported price is less. Make an arrangement that if anyone ever asks questions about the low price, there was a discount for whatever reason - be creative... maybe your husband has a computer job and he helped fix the contractor's computer and as a favor he knocked the price down. Service work is the best smile

I could keep going, but there are plenty of ways to channel the money. The key is, lie as little as possible (by avoiding suggestions like 4 which put trust in another person) and take it slow.
