 In December, I was arrested and charged with Marijuana Production. It's a long story. Essentially, the cops were allowed, with my consent, to take growing equipment from my house. There were no marijuana plants or seeds on the premises (I made sure), but when it came time for court the police conveniently found 13 seeds in the equipment they had confiscated. I plead "no contest" to a Class 3 felony and was sentenced to 180 days and a $500 fine which has since been completed and payed for. But that is not my present concern.
I am a Vietnam Veteran with a 100% PTSD disability. I take medication for that disability. The Sheridan County Sheriff's Office refused my request to see a doctor and have that prescription filled. The Veteran's Administration would not fill my prescription because I was in the custody of Sheridan County. There is some kind of law or bill that says the county sheriff's office must pay for the medication. I believe there is a Federal program whereby they are reimbursed for the medication. Thus, the VA could not fill the prescriptions.
I was told by the Sheriff to call the VA and have them send the prescriptions to the Sheridan County PO Box without telling them where I was! When that didn't work, the Sheriff was irate and blamed me.
This incident is now over. I was released the 21st of this May and I am not so concerned for myself. I survived a little bitter and a lot wiser. What does concern me is that this might be happening to other Veterans that are arrested in Sheridan County Nebraska. What happens if a Vet has a heart condition, HIV or Agent Orange? This type of behavior by the sheriff's department could result in death or permanent injury! I also wonder if the sheriff's department is illegally billing the Federal Government for medications it does not supply? I think that's called fraud.
Anyway, I appreciate your consideration in this matter and any advice or help you might offer.
