Well keeping it cool is a must, heat will cause it to lose potency. But I'm not sure how long you could keep it, I'd store it for no more than 6 months myself.

Heat and light are your enemy with pot potency. I used to actually keep my stuff in the freezer. Which is a good idea if you buy large quantities and don't want it dry as the desert sand haha....

keep it in glass jars if you must. They are great for storage in ounces. Anything less, just smoke it.

I've kept bricks of weed in seal-a-meal bags in a dark closet for over a year and it was OK. The bricks were hard as a rock, I'd pull the buds apart, put them in a plastic bag and spray mist of water on them and let it set for a couple of days. The buds would rehydrate and have that skunky smell again. Just don't use too much water or it will get that moldy taste.

Preface: It's been a long time since I smoked so exact times are hazy.
I used to store mine inside a plastic bag in a sealed glass jar in a drawer at my parents house when i was younger for when I went home from school. I generally was only home during winter break and parts of summer break, so it would sit in that dark drawer in its hermetically sealed container for 6 months or so at a time. Hit hard as all get out, but I was paranoid as hell about driving the stuff 500 miles with the way I drive so I either had to find a dealer in my parents area (hard to find a trustworthy guy when you're only there for 1 week every 6 months), or get the delivery from friends once every long while (i obviously did the latter).
It wasn't the beautiful skunk that I bought, but it still got me high. It also hit like mike tyson before the face tats. |
