I think it gives you that focus you need with out distraction. Distraction from pain and unmotivating thoughts. Sativa is definitely the way to go for working out or any activity. You need a good 60/40 sativa/indica mix at least for a good uplifting, motivating high.
As herb is a natural muscle relaxant your muscles can go the distance but if you smoke too much you will get winded so a few hits of good stuff will get you there where you want to be.
